“Casa la Siesta is a beautifully restored rural retreat overlooking the rolling hills of the Cadiz countryside, where a passion for the land, food, environment and relaxation merges with the love of understated luxury. We took time to create a place with thoughtful design and attention to detail. We hope you experience a real connection with Casa, its natural surroundings, and the team.”

Lee Thornley and Richard Sidi, owners

The history

The Casa story started in 2008, when founder Lee Thornley moved to Spain to learn Spanish. He fell in love with Vejer de la Frontera and bought a field with a small outbuilding on it with the intention of building a hotel. The project was a true labour of love, and he worked to create a peaceful retreat where guests can embrace a slower pace of life and feel good inside and out.

The main house is surrounded by lavender-scented gardens, with lush archways and winding pathways. Rooms are all connected by the courtyard and offer beautiful views onto the open countryside, while interiors use natural materials and textures to create a relaxed feel. Restored and repurposed furniture steeped in history has been used throughout, bringing understated character and warmth to the hotel. Lee is also founder of interiors brand Bert & May – learn more about the connection here.

Our team

Our team really are the foundation of Casa. If you're regular guest you may see a few familiar faces, many who have been with us from the very beginning.

Our head chef Connie has boundless energy and a real passion for produce – look out for her picking fresh ingredients in our kitchen garden. Alberto, often found in the grounds, was one of the original builders at Casa and is now our head gardener, working side by side with Connie to grow the fruits, vegetables and herbs we use in our seasonal dishes.

Jessica, our Front of House Manager, has the ability to make anything possible. She’s always around if you need her. Jessica has the ability to do what always feels just right for our guests.

It’s really rewarding to read the notes left in the visitors’ book…. and seeing guests come back year after year is a lovely feeling

Jessica, General Manager

Today

As Casa La Siesta has evolved, its ethos has remained the same. It continues to be owned by the founder, Lee, and recently, Richard Sidi joined the Casa family as co-owner. Richard was initially a guest at Casa who simply fell in love with the place and its surroundings.
